Announcing the 2019 Ones to Watch

​Now in its 18th year, Freshminds’ Ones to Watch is our annual opportunity to recognise the future leaders hitting the business world from across the top UK universities. Each year, we filter down the top students who are in their penultimate year at university to the best youthful visionaries and disrupters who will soon be entering the job market.

Each ambitious member has an impressive portfolio of achievements and it is interesting to see what they will do next. Meet some of the new Ones to Watch, set to graduate in 2019!

Husam Ahmed

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics & Economics  

Husam was accepted on to Google and Boston Consulting Group mentoring programs. He later interned as a capital markets Summer Analyst at a firm with $22 billion assets under management.

Husam is Co-Founder & Director of A.K.H. Capital. Further he Co-founded the Warwick Africa Summit in 2017 – a summit that hosted two heads of state and speakers boasting a combined net worth of $18 billion.

Siddharth Jairaj

Edinburgh Ones to Watch

Studying: Economics & Economic History 

Siddharth has been working with Fresh Sight Ltd and this year he will be leading the company as one of its Directors and he’s looking forward to helping Fresh Sight future-proof itself by refining its current training programs and feedback mechanisms.   

Following the completion of his degree and his time with Fresh Sight, Siddharth hopes to enter the industry of management consulting, with a focus on strategy consulting!

Sara Schein 

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Management 

While studying at Warwick, Sara has been involved in the Warwick Consulting Society as Co-Head of Women In Consulting where she developed a mentorship scheme and organized several events including a Google Insight Day.

During the course of her studies, Sara has also completed various internships at Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and The Blackstone Group. She is currently undertaking a placement at Goldman Sachs Investment Management division.

Kamil Banbula

Warwick  Ones to Watch 

Studying: Accounting & Finance 

During Kamil’s first year at university, he launched a premium taxi company in Poland. This experience has helped him to develop a strong sense of business acumen and, having interned at Goldman Sachs, Warsaw Stock Exchange, RBS, Macquarie Group, Barclays Investment Bank, and Santander Corporate & Investment Banking, he became driven to pursue a career in the financial services industry. 

Wilhelm Zhao

Edinburgh Ones to Watch

Studying:  Computer Science Throughout university Wilhelm has been active in the Edinburgh University Trading and Investment Club, taking on leadership roles and following his passion for technology into heading the UK’s largest student-run investment fund’s tech investment arm. 

He was the last year's chairman of the Edinburgh Finance Conference - UK’s largest student-run finance conference - bringing together hundreds of participants from business, government, and academia.  

Alicia Vidal

Oxford Ones to Watch 

Studying: Philosophy, Politics and Economics 

Alicia is a final year Philosophy, Politics and Economics student (graduating 2019) at the University of Oxford striving for a career in consulting, particularly political and market risk and country analysis. She has a broad range of experience: consulting for Jaguar Landrover and pro bono for several charities and is planning to take up a policy research internship at a think tank at the end of the year.

Federico Barberi

Bath Ones to Watch 

Studying: Management 

As part of his industrial placement, Federico spent 14 months working for UBS on the Investment Solutions desk. His role saw him managing positions in multi-asset portfolios, writing fund manager reports and contributing to the equity research group. He has co-founded the Bath branch of 180 Degrees Consulting, the world’s largest university-based consultancy. After graduation, he will undertake a Master in Finance, to then pursue a career in advisory.

Sebastian Johansson

Warwick Ones to Watch

Studying: Management with Finance Sebastian’s main passion lies with companies, building them, consulting them and funding them. Hence, his background has been primarily focused around the different stages a company might be in advising them on longer-term strategic questions as well as restructuring and M&A transactions. 

 In the future, Sebastian wishes to continue down this path but preferably with high-growth companies in emerging industries and markets, helping to build and fund the unicorns of tomorrow.

Jaykishen Gokani

UCL Ones to Watch

Studying: Management Science 

Jaykishen is a Management Science & Intelligent Systems. He is the current Chairman of Europe’s largest financial technology society – UCL FinTech. In 2017, Jaykishen founded a start-up, The Future Financiers, as a platform for students interested in Finance to further their understanding, share their passion, and excel in recruitment processes. He also works as a Campus Editor for LinkedIn, through which he writes his own articles and edits those of students across the UK. 

David LyriaL

SE Ones to Watch

Studying: Government and Economics 

David is a New Futures Fund Scholar. David has spent two summers experience interning in East Africa with a global humanitarian NGO and a microcredit firm.Last Summer David studied Mandarin for 4 weeks at Peking University in Beijing. During his 2nd year at LSE David served as Co-President of the LSE Emerging Markets Forum, an active student society that organises the world’s largest student conference on emerging markets. This summer David is interning at Deutsche Bank in London for 9 weeks in their Debt Capital Markets business.

Ronit Kanwar

Oxford Ones to Watch

Studying: Economics & Management

Ronit has experience working in the financial industry including an internship at the Bank of England. He was winner of Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the LBF awards and is currently the CEO and Co-Founder of Empower Energy. Empower Energy is a social enterprise providing electricity to underserved communities in India which is the London

Angus Sandison

Edinburgh Ones to Watch 

Studying: Politics 

Angus has a real passion for investment management and hopes to pursue a career in this field post-graduation. Having interned at First State Stewart Asia, Artemis Fund Managers and Saracen Fund managers he has developed his understanding of bottom-up investing and a real appreciation for fundamental analysis. Edinburgh has provided a fantastic opportunity to further develop his investment skill set by co-managing and pitching to the UK’s first student-led social investment fund, Prosper CIC, and participating the Edinburgh University Trading and Investment Society.

Josias Senu

LSE Ones to Watch Studying: LLB 

Josias is the recipient of the PwC Lord Benson Scholarship and Commercial Bar Association Scholarship. He has won numerous academic prizes and awards, including Best Class Performance in Property II and the UBS Outstanding Student Award. He has sat on the Editorial Board of the NILS UK Law Review and LSE Law Review. He is the author of forthcoming publications in the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal, Lloyd’s Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly and LSE Law Review. He is an aspiring commercial lawyer and holds training contract offers from Magic and Silver Circle law firms. 

Shawn Chow

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Economics & Politics Shawn is deeply passionate about Finance, and has gained experience across Global Markets, Private Equity, Asset Management, Venture Capital, Renewables, and FinTech. Most notably, he has interned with Nomura, Partners Group, and Columbia Threadneedle Investments. Furthermore, he has been awarded the CAIA Global Gateway Scholarship, TFG Accelerate Scholarship, and is a member of the prestigious Mensa High IQ Society. 

Shawn was pivotal to the success of the two events he organised in university: APECS Leveraged Buyout (LBO) Case Competition, the biggest of its kind in Asia, and Warwick International Venture 2017, where he led a delegation of specially-selected Warwick students to Silicon Valley to visit companies like Google, HP, Amazon, VMware, and Lyft.

Shruti Venkatraman

Edinburgh Ones to Watch 

Studying: LLB 

Shruti has gained a broad range of experience at law firms, think tanks and NGOs. At university, she has held leadership positions at Model United Nations conferences, published articles in academic journals and served as a class representative at the students' union. She has served on the Youth Advisory Board of Index on Censorship, been recognised as one of the Top 100 First Year Lawyers by the Bright Network, and earned an Edinburgh Award from the university careers service.

 Bhavana Murikinati

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Economics 

Bhavana’s experiences are diverse; having completed Internships in Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Man Group. She won the Goldman Sachs Student Challenge 2016 amongst hundreds of application across EMEA, as well as coming in the Top 10 of McKinsey’s Venture Academy for her social enterprise start-up, KHANA (a training programme to help reduce farmer suicide rates in India).  KHANA also won the 2018 Student Enterprise Fund at Warwick University, gaining £1000 seed funding. Alongside her studies, Bhavana also takes part in the Student-Staff Liaison Committee and was the Treasurer of Warwick Asia careers Society. 

Georgia Dawson

Durham Ones to Watch 

Studying: Arabic & Economics 

Georgia is excited to return to Durham after spending a year volunteering and studying in Beirut, Lebanon where she was able to refine her language skills in Arabic and gain a unique insight into life in the Middle East. Furthermore, this year Georgia will be the first-ever female captain of the University Boxing Club and she hopes to continue promoting female empowerment through sport in her role. This summer Georgia is interning at BNP Paribas in Global Markets and she’s been able to further her experience gained interning at Barclays in Equity Research last year. 

Michael Truckle

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Accounting & Finance 

Michael is an aspiring trader on either the sell-side or buy-side. He executed his  first trade at the age of 12 and has traded actively since 2014 when he was 16 years old – he currently has a 20.06% year-to-date return Aside from trading, he is extremely interested in any company within the financial sector whether it’s insurers, banks, asset managers, pension funds. To demonstrate this, he recently founded MT Consultancy Group who automate processes within large financial institutions to primarily save time and increase efficiency across all levels within an organisation.

Charlie Kind

Edinburgh Ones to Watch 

Studying: Philosophy & Economics 

Charlie will be starting an MSc in Management at IE Business School in Madrid in September. Professionally-speaking, he began his career as a data analyst for IBM before starting university. Once at Edinburgh, he joined FreshSight, a student-run social consultancy, as a consultant and later as their finance manager and last year, alongside 8 fellow students, he co-founded Prosper Social Finance - the UK’s first student-run social investment fund. Beyond next year, whether it’s through entrepreneurship, consultancy, technology or an industry he’s yet to experience.

Sangeeta Das

UCL Ones to Watch 

Studying: Population Health 

Sangeeta has gained management experience having led 20 members of staff when working at the National Citizen Service. Her breadth of skills led to her securing an internship at J.P. Morgan.  During her time at university, Sangeeta implemented marketing strategies leading to record sales for UCL Hindu Society- UCL’s 4th largest society- on top of driving growth for Medsin’s Annual Global Health Conference. Her expertise was further demonstrated during her time as a Brand Manager for Teach First. Upon being elected as a Member of Youth Parliament, Sangeeta secured £696,000 to fund youth projects.

Klaudia Gegotek

 Edinburgh Ones to Watch 

Studying: Economics 

Klaudia organised Warwick Economics Summit, worked with Aston Martin as a student consultant and travelled to China to work on a rural development project during which she has learnt and gained new perspectives. She hopes to continue to meet many interesting people and gain new experiences that can help her learn and grow every day. 

Justin Shik

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Philosophy, Politics & Economics Justin most recently completed a year abroad in Canada and spent his summer within the Strategy and Operations Consulting division of Deloitte. He has vast financial experience with previous internships at Sky UK, EY, Royal Dutch Shell and J.P. Morgan. He has played an active role in campus life, helping to organise the largest student-run TEDX event in Europe and largest student fashion show in Canada. He has a strong interest in start-ups and venture capital and is currently the Treasurer of Warwick Kickstart. 

Victor Yip

 Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Physics 

Victor’s focus and passion lie in maximising my impact in the clean energy and sustainability sectors; Victor believes an academically holistic and internationally cooperative approach is required for this. To that end, Victor has studied environmental ethics in Beijing, worked in the U.S. and currently intern at chinadialogue, an organisation dedicated to promoting an understanding of China’s environmental challenges.

Maya Caddle

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: Politics and International Studies 

Maya founded a start-up promoting careers in underrepresented sectors to university students, including VC, FinTech, Digital Marketing and NGOs. As part of this, she has hosted events from university campuses to the Shard and developed a community of over 1200 students in less than 6 months without any funding. In addition to work experience at UBS and PwC, Maya secured an internship in the central innovation team of the South – East Asian Fortune 500 conglomerate, Jardines.  Looking to the future, Maya is scheduled to speak about youth innovation as a panellist at a conference in Madrid with over 1000 attendees.  

Finn Zhan Chen

Edinburgh Ones to Watch 

Studying: Artifical Intelligence & Management 

Finn is studying Artificial Intelligence with Management and is entering his final year at the University of Edinburgh. He is currently interning at Amazon as a Business Analyst, and previously, he interned in technology companies and a boutique strategy consultancy. He came to the realisation of how technology can transform the operations and infrastructures of a company, thus leading to new value creations and cost-advantages. He is intrigued by their strategical implications which will drive a company's short-term and long-term objectives. Therefore, he is very excited to pursue a career in strategy consulting with affinity in high tech.

Utkarsh Ojha

Imperial Ones to Watch 

Studying: Medicine Utkarsh is a medical student at Imperial College London. Upon entry into medical school, he soon realized he wanted to expand his knowledge and experience beyond lectures and hospital placements. Consequently, he has previously been employed by Dem Dx, a medical technology start-up, The World Health Organization and the investment banking division of Jefferies Group.  He enjoys writing, and has published over 10 academic papers in high impact peer-reviewed journals and has won several academic scholarships and prizes at national and international level. He has also played cricket at a competitive level and has represented the United Hospitals cricket team, compromising of the best medic cricketers across London.

Federica Pozzan

Warwick Ones to Watch 

Studying: German and Business

Federica decided to study German & Business at Warwick University, as it represents the conjunction between her main interests: understanding the German automotive industry as well as the financial structure of the economy. Before interning at JPMorgan in Commercial Banking over the summer, she spent a year abroad in Germany, where she had the opportunity to observe the trends and the impact of the global events in the automotive market by interning in Sales Planning & Reporting at the headquarter of Porsche, in Stuttgart.
