Best and brightest want insurance

by Nick Willis October 07, 2011

The vast number of graduates now competing for jobs has been highlighted in a recent report by the Association of Graduate Recruiters which states that “On average, 83 applications are received for each graduate job” .

The insurance industry in particular has experienced a significant growth in graduate applications as Amanda Haig (HR manager at Allianz Insurance) comments: “There is no doubt that a career in insurance is becoming a far more attractive proposition.

Allianz has so far received in excess of 10,000 applications for its 30 graduate positions starting in September 2011, proving how competitive the graduate market can be.”

Haig goes on to relate this to the Aldermanbury Declaration by stating that: “The insurance industry must recognise this fantastic opportunity to attract this talent to our sector as we seek to implement the standards of the Aldermanbury Declaration .”

Whilst the growth in applications is good news, it poses a new challenge to recruiters struggling to extract the bright, talented graduates from the ever expanding market.

Freshminds Talent consultants are experts in identifying and selecting the very best from the large graduate UK population. This is achieved through many innovative selection processes including Ones to Watch , now in its 11th successful year. This unique peer-nominated talent-spotting initiative identifies 100 future leaders from students at the top six universities in Britain. Our experience at Freshminds mirrors Amanda Haig’s comments: sourcing and selecting high calibre commercial and analytical graduates and second-jobbers for the insurance sector is a huge area of growth for Freshminds too.
