EU students join the battle for UK University Places

With tuition fees rising in 2012, competition for a place at university is fiercer than ever before. UK universities are experiencing a growing number of applications from EU students, which look set to fuel the fire in an already ruthless market.

Recent reports have shown that applications from EU students to study in the UK have risen by 5.8% in 2011, with a total of 46,000 received applications. This poses new challenges to UK students vying for a place at university who will now face increased competition from multilingual candidates. These EU candidates sporting proficiencies in more than one language will certainly stand out from the crowd and could raise the overall standard expected of university applications.

At Freshminds, we often recruit for roles where a second language is essential therefore our diverse talent pool comprises a candidate network spanning 45 different languages. We attract high calibre graduates thanks to our strong relationships with leading graduate employers, along with the Ones to Watch programme but, in the current market, we continue to advise our candidates to differentiate themselves from their peers - a second language is good way to make you stand out from the crowd.
