Share your story about career change!

My name is Roman Krznaric and I am a faculty member of The School of Life, where I teach courses on the subject of Work. I am currently writing a book called How to Find Fulfilling Work for a ground-breaking series of self-help books edited by Alain de Botton, to be published jointly by Pan Macmillan and The School of Life in May 2012. The idea is to reinvent the self-help genre, with books that are inspiring, intellectually rigorous, highly accessible and conceptually bold.

As part of my research, I’m collecting stories of people who have tried to find fulfilling work. Whether you have succeeded in finding a job you love, have given up hope or are a recent graduate still engaged in the struggle, I’d love to hear your story. I want to know about your career path so far, and whether it has been fulfilling. What changes have you made, and why? How have you negotiated the labyrinth of choices? What challenges have you faced, or are you facing? How have you confronted the dilemmas of balancing family life with career ambitions? Have you been able to find work that really uses your talents and embodies your values?

You might have made a huge shift from being a doctor to becoming a potter (or vice versa), or maybe rethought how you approach your existing job, discovering ways to make it more personally satisfying without making a drastic change. You might have just left college and feel dazed and confused about the options.

Ultimately, I want to understand what you’ve learned from your experiences so far. What wisdom have you gained that you might want to share with others?

My aim is to incorporate some of these stories into the book. But even if I cannot use your story directly, it will undoubtedly help shape the book, and make it more relevant and inspiring to everyone hoping to find work that is truly life-enhancing.

Whatever your journey, I’d like to invite you to write to me about it at info@romankrznaric.com. I would appreciate if you kept it to under 1000 words.

Thanks for taking part, and I look forward to reading about your adventures.
