Flexibility is Key

The higher education white paper, proposed recently by Universities Minister David Willets, suggests that universities should take a much more active role in career development, ensuring that each of its graduates regardless of course is fully prepared for the workplace upon its completion.

There is fierce debate as to what shape this career development should take, however one point seems to be universally agreed on - variety is key. The value of continuing to develop a diverse range of skills applicable in any workplace is clear, so not to pigeon hole yourself too early in your career.

Having a range of experience on your CV is very useful, will keep doors open and help you stand out in this competitive environment. For those candidates who don’t have a vocation, no need to panic, collecting a range of skills that can be in applied in a number of areas is no bad thing.
