A global manufacturing company is looking to conduct a cost reduction piece across one of their business units. They have a substantial cost reduction target, which increased significantly over the past 12 months, due to the pandemic. This is a highly confidential project and further details will be discussed on a screening call.
You will have experience across cost reduction in an engineering / manufacturing space, having conducted large cost reduction and optimization projects in the past.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Scoping the needs and planning your approach to a cost reduction exercise. These should ponder:
- The pain points and specific needs of an engineering and manufacturing environment
- Your knowledge and expertise in the market, bringing best practices' and industry insights
- Any cost reduction exercises previously conducted by the client - namely contract negotiations, suppliers and sourcing assessments, many different technical levers
- Coordinating and facilitating workshops with pre-selected suppliers, with the aim of identifying and agreeing on the best opportunities to follow. These should include:
- Working alongside experts as well as operational teams, educating them on cost reduction best practices whilst collaborating on business and legacy knowledge
- Bringing industry best practices to support idea generation
- Building a pilot workshop which can be replicated across the suppliers' landscape in the future
- Your guidance on estimations of duration, resources and timelines - as they will rely on your expertise and industry best practices knowledge to shape the final look of this piece.
Consultant profile:
- Operational excellence experience, with successful track record of leading cost reduction exercises across engineering / manufacturing environment;
Details:

- Duration: to be recommended by the consultant
- ly remote, with regular travels to the client site in the UK. Details to be discussed in the meeting with the client
- Day rate: £800-1000 ltd (dependent on experience)
